Estate Tax

I understand taxes, you earn wages, taxes are due, you earn interest, taxes are due, you get dividends, taxes are due. I understand the concept.

You die and you have to pay taxes, that's dumb and it sucks. You typically have already paid taxes on what you have, why is it taxed again? Just stupid!

Bush Tax Cuts Compromise

This whole discussion is just bullshit. One of the provisions has been described as 'temporary 2% payroll tax cut' or 'temporary 2% cut in FICA withholding'.

This is a temporary 2% cut in your social security contribution!!!! WTF, what program doesn't need a reduction of inflows more than Social Security?

Why aren't the headlines "2% cut in your contribution to social security"? In general the public would be outraged.

I am on Social Security and I have no problem with not getting a one time $250 check which the Republicans opposed, BUT if there is a temporary reduction in SS contributions, I change my opinion.

Bowl Championship Series (BCS)

What a crock of shit!!!! These teams that are champs of 'BCS' conferences getting automatic bids to a BCS bowl game is criminal stupidity.

ACC champ Virginia Tech lost to James Madison. They will paly in the Orange Bowl.

Big East Champ UConn lost to Temple, Rutgers and Louisville. They will play in the Fiesta Bowl and probably be 20+ point underdogs.

Something has to be done about this and I don't want Congress getting involved.

UPDATE: The results of an FCS playoff game involving Appalachian State and Western Illinois had not been included in the data based used to generate the ratings. In the revised standings, Boise State moves from 11th to 10th and LSU drops from 10th to 11th.

GM IPO

Why would anyone want to buy stock in this POS, just because they are coming out of bankruptcy. They didn't reduce there biggest cost, the unions. Didn't anyone learn the lessons of the airlines? My guess is stock price of $33 - $35 for only a day, then down to $27. Even at $27 it is over priced. Doesn't survive 3 years. Only people making money on this deal are Wall Street and "We the People" getting OUR money back from the bailout.

Charles Rangel is the dumbest dumbass in the world. He claims he has spent $2 million on his defense. Why would he do this, I'll tell ya. I do not know the exact definition of 'entitlement program' but I get the impression that it implies something for nothing. The fed's are buying back $600 billion in T Bills. Question, where is that money coming from? I believe it's a good thing but if we are just issuing debt to buy back debt, that sounds like a Ponzi scheme.

Unemployment Claims, Main Stream Media (MSM)

Headline on the Thursday before mid term elections, "Unemployment Claims Drop Sharply". Something sounds fishy, and the MSM is at it again. Also, unless I am mistaken the weekly report typically reports the adjustment to last weeks figures. There is no such mention in the AP report, they must have went up. Please define sharply, is 4.6% "sharply". No mention of 4.6% just the word sharply.

If I were a betting man, next Thursday the numbers will pop back up.

I normally wouldn't judge an entire group by the actions of one person but when that person gets supported by the executive director, I'll use the broad brush.

The story begins as an audience member asks the moderator of a LWV debate if they are going to start the proceedings with the Pledge of Allegiance, her response is no and the audience spontaneously stands and recites the pledge. The moderator and an executive director of the LWV blasts the audience and the Republican candidate.

Apple just released quarterly financial results. They made a profit of over $4 Billion this quarter, that's just 3 months. Guess you now know why your iPod, iPad, iPhone and Mac computer cost so much.

I looked at a Mac the last time I bought a computer, the salesgeek was either stupid or lied to me. Even so, it was way to expensive and ugly.

I just do not get it. I have a great MP3 player that cost $29. That's about equal to the sales tax on a iPod. I have a nice cell phone that does everything I want (make phone calls) and it cost $19.

Foreclosure Mess

Shelia Baird, chairman FDIC, said it best when she said the mortgage mess started along time ago when people stopped going to their local bank for their home loan. The mortgage process became an impersonal paperwork quagmire. Lot's of people got mortgages when they never should have, that happens when you never sit down across the desk from the guy who approves your loan.

Now, paperwork snafus are delaying the foreclosure process. I can understand how the paperwork can get screwed up when the original mortgage has been bought and sold many times. I still don't understand why the last guy holding the paper (mortgage) doesn't work something out with the homeowner to keep them in the house. After all, the last thing the lender wants in this market is the house back.

Now for the bottom line, "IF YOU HAVEN'T MADE ANY PAYMENTS IN A YEAR, STFU AND GET OUT!" I don't care if the paperwork is screwed up.

I sure am glad I will never have to apply for another mortgage in my lifetime. The process will only be even more painful than it already is.

Chile Mine Rescue Observations

72,000 checks for $250 each were mailed to dead people. That's not news, that's just our government in action. What I want reported is what happened to the checks, were any cashed and if so is there any legal action being taken to recover the money?

California Prop 8 reversal

California voters passed Prop 8 in a state wide vote. Who the F does the judge think he is by over ruling the vote of the people. I do not care that Prop 8 says marriage is between a man and a women. My problem is that's what the people want so let it be.

Mosque at Ground Zero.

I really have mixed emotions about this issue. First, the proposed mosque is not at ground zero. I consider ground zero to be the former outline of the WTC towers. I believe the mosque is several blocks away. Second, opposing a religious building in the area is just stupid and bigoted. It is almost as stupid as Muslims proposing a mosque anywhere in the area. It just sounds like someone wants to tweak our noses.

BP oil disaster Part 4

So, they have this huge ship that will 'process' 20 million gallons of sea water and extract 'most' of the oil. The oil is stored and the processed sea water id dumped back into the Gulf of Mexico. They are currently testing and are waiting for EPA approval. I bet the EPA will have a problem with the discharge of processed sea water that still has small amounts of oil in it.

Would someone at the EPA please use some common sense. Oh wait, the government, environmentalists and common sense are not used in the same sentence.

GM pays back government

Bull crap, the unions raped the bond holders in bankruptcy and now GM is claiming they paid back the government loans in full. We will never be paid back in full. GM should have been left to fail and we'd be better off. If I have the timeline right, Bush gave GM money and Obama gave GM to the unions. At least we will get the money back eventually.

Arizona Law, part 2

President Obama is upset with Arizona for passing a state law. Two things wrong with this, one, its a state law, STFU. What about states rights! If the fed won't enforce the current law then the state has to protect themselves.

Two, he's only upset as he might lose some voters who will be on a bus home next election. Now if we could get California to enforce immigration law we'd have a real election.

Five years from now the Arizona budget will be running a surplus and the voters of Arizona will say "We told you so!"

From the NYT article: "While police demands of documents are common on subways, highways and in public places in some countries, including France, Arizona is the first state to demand that immigrants meet federal requirements to carry identity documents legitimizing their presence on American soil."

Apparently it is a federal requirement that immigrants carry identity docs at all times, so AZ is just enforcing a federal law. And why is Obama upset, I thought he wanted us to be more like France.

Arizona is proposing a law to make it illegal to be in the state without legal immigration documents. WTF, isn't already against the law. I applaud Arizona, but just round them up and ship them home. Bret Baier, a Fox News reporter, just interviewed President Obama for over 30 min. Obama did not answer one question, NOT ONE!! Baier was allowed by the White House to do the interview as he is a reporter and not as politically outspoken as Fox's commentators.
